Abstract:

Volumetric techniques were employed to study the adsorption of CO2 on a purified multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNT’s) sample, as a mesoporous material, at isothermal conditions of 288, 293 and 298 K and pressures ranging from 30 to 150 kPa. Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips equations were used to represent the isotherms. Also the parameters of these fitted isotherm models have been determined. The isosteric heat of adsorption was calculated using Clausius-Clapeyron equation that resulted in an average value of 10.19 kJ/mol (0.106 eV). Adsorption isotherms behavior with temperature and the average value of heat of adsorption confirmed that CO2 adsorption phenomenon is physisorption at the studied ranges. The observed entropy changes related to the adsorption in the range of surface loading from 0.133 to 0.147 mol/kg were lower than the values of theoretical entropy changes for both of the mobile and localized adsorption models.

Adsorption of Humic Acid On Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Background: Natural organic matters (NOMs) have the main role in formation of trihalomethanes. These compounds are in natural water sources due to biological activities. In the presented study, adsorption and separation of humic acid as an index of natural organic matters using multi-walled carbon nanotubes is evaluated. Methods: The experiments were carried out in bath adsorption reactors wit...

CO2 adsorption on the surface and open ended of Single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs): A Comparative study

Adsorption of CO2 on the surface of Single-wall zigzag (5,0) and armchair (4,4) carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were studied through using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Optimizations of geometric were performed at the B3PW91 level of 6-311++G** method standard basis set using GAUSSIAN 03 package of program [1]. Structural models were optimized and adsorption energies, band gap, charge...

Respiratory toxicity of multi-wall carbon nanotubes.

Carbon nanotubes focus the attention of many scientists because of their huge potential of industrial applications, but there is a paucity of information on the toxicological properties of this material. The aim of this experimental study was to characterize the biological reactivity of purified multi-wall carbon nanotubes in the rat lung and in vitro. Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNT) or groun...

Electrochemical Sensor for Determination of Fenitrothion at Multi-wall Carbon Nanotubes Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode

A sensor, based on multi-wall carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode (MWCNT/GCE), was developed for determination of fenitrothion. Determining the surface area of MWCNT/GCE showed that this surface is three times more active than that of a glassy carbon electrode. The experimental parameters, such as the amount of MWCNTs, pH of the fenitrothion solution, preconcentration potential an...
